Determining the cumulative effect of Bottom Hole Assembly (BHA) behavior during drilling on the quality of the wellbore and the subsequent impact on the performance and life of the BHA is an important goal for improving overall drilling and well-delivery efficiencies. A higher-quality wellbore not only has a positive effect on reducing the time required for all drilling, casing, or completions running operations; in curved holes, it can also extend the life of the drilling equipment by reducing the rate of accumulation of fatigue and reducing the amount of work the bit is required to perform. This leads to longer runs because the system is more mechanically efficient and has a reduced equipment failure rate.
BHA modeling simulates the drilling process accurately to establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to help optimize BHA designs to deliver improvements in drilling performance and wellbore quality. The model also can estimate quantities such as micro porosity that are not directly measured by standard equipment.

Fugro has opened a new remote operations center (ROC) in Abu Dhabi that is already handling remote and autonomous projects in the Middle East and India. The new ROC is the latest addition to Fugro’s global network of ROCs, which now consists of eight centers around the world.The ROCs are used to control unscrewed surface vessels (USVs). This allows projects to be delivered faster, more safely, and with lower carbon footprints. The remote nature of the operations also allows Fugro to adhere to travel and personnel restrictions implemented in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.Fugro says its fleet of USVs can perform high-speed hydrography, geophysical surveys, remote inspection and deployment, and command and control of remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) while being managed from any of the company’s ROCs. The company claims to have conducted more than 400 hours of ROV piloting from its ROCs. The operations can be low-bandwidth for operations such as asset positioning or high-bandwidth for operations that require sub second latency for control of remote assets
