Happy New Year!
Determining the cumulative effect of Bottom Hole Assembly (BHA) behavior during drilling on the quality of the wellbore and the subsequent impact on the performance and life of the BHA is an important goal for improving overall drilling and well-delivery efficiencies. A higher-quality wellbore not only has a positive effect on reducing the time required for all drilling, casing, or completions running operations; in curved holes, it can also extend the life of the drilling equipment by reducing the rate of accumulation of fatigue and reducing the amount of work the bit is required to perform. This leads to longer runs because the system is more mechanically efficient and has a reduced equipment failure rate.
BHA modeling simulates the drilling process accurately to establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to help optimize BHA designs to deliver improvements in drilling performance and wellbore quality. The model also can estimate quantities such as micro porosity that are not directly measured by standard equipment.

Happy Yalda Night
Fugro has opened a new remote operations center (ROC) in Abu Dhabi that is already handling remote and autonomous projects in the Middle East and India. The new ROC is the latest addition to Fugro’s global network of ROCs, which now consists of eight centers around the world. The ROCs are used to control unscrewed surface vessels (USVs). This allows projects to be delivered faster, more safely, and with lower carbon footprints. The remote nature of the operations also allows Fugro to adhere to travel and personnel restrictions implemented in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.Fugro says its fleet of USVs can perform high-speed hydrography, geophysical surveys, remote inspection and deployment, and command and control of remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) while being managed from any of the company’s ROCs. The company claims to have conducted more than 400 hours of ROV piloting from its ROCs. The operations can be low-bandwidth for operations such as asset positioning or high-bandwidth for operations that require sub second latency for control of remote assets
TechnipFMC has tested the feasibility of a global drone system with drones operated remotely by pilots based anywhere in the world. Construction supervision and health, safety, and environmental (HSE) monitoring were the main drivers of the study. One of the study’s main objectives was to move from traditional unmanned autonomous vehicles (UAV) to resident systems and to investigate the possibilities they could offer.
Aerial views have been used extensively to reduce personnel exposure in specific situations such as difficult access or potentially dangerous inspection areas like active flares, confined spaces, or high structures.
In these cases, the drones are controlled by an on-site pilot who is either within their line of sight or a short distance away.
Combining AUV technology with embedded and associated intelligence from the internet of things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and cloud and edge computing should enable drones to fly safely in complex and dynamic environments. Implementing these technologies will make data accessible and available in real-time to people working on the project worldwide and it will also generate new work processes for project management and execution
After a year’s worth of hyperactive volatility, the outlook for oil production next year looks positively comatose. Both the big oil-producing countries in OPEC and the US shale producers appear likely to be delivering volumes in between the lows reached during the worst of the COVID-19 demand swoon and last year’s all-time high. With another surge in COVID-19 cases in progress worldwide, OPEC said it would stick with its current quotas because moves to slow the incidence of the infections are likely to stall demand growth, or worse.“While the third quarter recovery in some economies was impressive, the near-term trend remains fragile, amid a variety of ongoing uncertainties, especially the near-term trajectory of COVID-19,” according to OPEC’s monthly outlook. OPEC predicted demand rising to 96.84 million B/D in the monthly report, down 80,000 B/D from its previous outlook.2022 is looking like the year for the post-COVID comeback in demand and prices. In the past, this would mean US shale producers, most of which are independents, would switch into rapid growth mode. However, a report from Wood Mackenzie said that for most, investment horizons will get progressively shorter across the board—exploration, development, and acquisition.

Baker Hughes is buying a startup called Compact Carbon Capture to bolster its energy transition strategy, the company said 12th November in an announcement.
Baker Hughes described carbon-capture technology as “critical” for the energy industry and that it “is among the most viable decarbonization paths” for both retrofitting existing assets and greenfield projects.
”True to its name, its core product is a modular CO2-capturing system that relies on high-speed rotating solvent-based beds that rely on static-based columns to absorb the greenhouse gas. The company said that compared to the traditional technologies, its platform requires 75% less area to achieve the same throughput.
The smaller footprint that this concept affords opens its potential market to crowded refineries or facilities notorious for having limited real estates, such as offshore oil and gas platforms. Outside of oil and gas, Compact Carbon Capture is targeting waste-to-energy plants and ship installations
Green power is set to draw around $11 trillion of investment in the coming decades as the cost of renewables plummets and more of the world’s energy comes from electricity. The projected increases in renewable energy and battery technology — wind and solar will grow to 56% of global electricity in 2050 — are set to cause emissions to peak in 2027 and then fall 0.7% annually until 2050.
That would lead to a warming of 3.3 degrees Celsius by 2100, well short of the 6% annual emissions reduction needed to keep warming below 2 degrees and the 10% reduction required to achieve 1.5 degrees of warming. The future of oil demand will be shaped by the uptake of electric vehicles. primary oil consumption peaking in 2035 and then gradually declining.
Meanwhile, the oil in road transport tops out in 2031. The fall will be sped up by EVs reaching price parity with traditional engines before 2025, at which point people will start buying plug-in cars at a faster rate, offsetting oil’s growth from aviation, shipping, and petrochemicals.
By 2050, some 65% of all passenger-vehicle kilometers will be made in electric vehicles. The current fleet of EVs is displacing 1 million barrels of oil a day.
Schlumberger New Energy and Thermal Energy Partners (TEP), an Austin-based geothermal energy development firm, announced on 27 August that they have entered into an agreement to create STEP Energy, a geothermal project development company. According to the announcement, STEP Energy will leverage its partners’ expertise to develop efficient and profitable geothermal power generation projects to support a reliable supply of clean energy.
The new company’s first project is the 10-MW Nevis Geothermal Power Project on the Caribbean island of Nevis. The objective of the project, being co-developed by Nevis Renewable Energy International (NREI) and the Nevis Island Administration, is to enable the island to transition to 100% zero-emission renewable energy for its power supply. NREI is a subsidiary of TEP.
Schlumberger New Energy focuses on low-carbon and carbon-neutral energy technologies. TEP is applying drilling technologies from shale gas to the development of geothermal energy.
COVID-19 spreads mainly among people who are in close contact for a prolonged period. Spread happens when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks, and droplets from their mouth or nose are launched into the air and land in the mouths or noses of people nearby. The droplets can also be inhaled into the lungs. People who are infected but do not have symptoms likely also play a role in the spread of COVID-19.
Since people can spread the virus before they know they are sick, it is important to stay at least 1.5 meters away from others when possible, even if you—or they—do not have any symptoms. Social distancing is especially important for people who are at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19.
COVID-19 can live for hours or days on a surface, depending on factors such as sunlight, humidity, and the type of surface. However, this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads. Social distancing helps limit opportunities to come in contact with contaminated surfaces and infected people outside the home.
Although the risk of severe illness may be different for everyone, anyone can get and spread COVID-19. Everyone has a role to play in slowing the spread and protecting themselves, their family, and their community.

Corona viruses are a large family of viruses which may cause illness in animals or humans. The most recently discovered coronavirus causes coronavirus disease COVID-19. The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, tiredness, and dry cough. These symptoms are usually mild and begin gradually. Some people become infected but don’t develop any symptoms and don’t feel unwell. Most people (about 80%) recover from the disease without needing special treatment. About 2% of people with the disease have died. The disease can spread from person to person through small droplets from the nose or mouth which are spread when a person with COVID-19 coughs or exhales. These droplets land on objects and surfaces around the person. Other people then catch COVID-19 by touching these objects or surfaces, then touching their eyes, nose or mouth. It is important to stay more than 1 meter (3 feet) away from a person who is sick.
